What is Fiber Internet?
Fiber-optic internet uses light to deliver data at incredible speeds. Unlike cable or DSL, fiber gives you a dedicated connection that doesn’t slow down when your neighbors get online.
Velocity is Grays Harbor’s only local, 100% fiber, internet service provider. Offering reliable and affordable internet services with speeds up to 1 Gig+!
- Symmetrical speeds (same, high, upload and download bandwidth)
- No data caps (or overage charges)
- Local support
- Future-proof technology
- Ultra-low latency (5ms to major content providers, that’s 0.005 seconds!)
- Reliable, even during peak hours

Fiber vs Cable vs DSL
When it comes to your internet connection, not all options are created equal. Here’s how Fiber and Cable compare:
Speed:
Fiber delivers symmetrical speeds — meaning your upload speeds are just as fast as your downloads. Cable internet often has much slower upload speeds, making activities like video calls and sending large files slower.
Reliability:
Fiber uses light signals through glass strands, making it less prone to interference and congestion. Cable internet can slow down during peak hours when lots of people in your area are online.
Future-Proof:
Fiber is built for the future. With nearly unlimited capacity for upgrades, fiber networks are ready for tomorrow’s technology demands — cable networks are already reaching their limits in many areas.
Latency:
Fiber offers lower latency (delay), which makes online gaming, video calls, and real-time applications smoother and more responsive than cable.
Value:
While fiber plans are often competitively priced with cable, they deliver superior performance, stability, and long-term value for your home or business.
When it comes to your internet connection, not all options are created equal. Here’s how Fiber and DSL compare:
Speed:
Fiber internet offers lightning-fast speeds — often 100x faster than traditional DSL. DSL speeds are limited by distance from the provider’s central office and usually top out much lower.
Reliability:
Fiber is far less susceptible to signal degradation, weather, and distance compared to DSL, which can suffer slowdowns and frequent drops, especially in rural areas.
Technology:
Fiber uses advanced light-based technology, delivering data almost instantly. DSL relies on older copper telephone lines, a technology originally designed for voice calls, not modern internet demands.
Scalability:
Fiber networks are designed to scale for future needs like 8K streaming, smart homes, and ultra-fast cloud access. DSL struggles to keep up even with today’s standard internet activities.
Overall Experience:
With fiber, you get faster downloads, smoother streaming, clearer video calls, and a more dependable connection — DSL simply can’t match it.
- Symmetrical means your service has the same upload and download bandwidth.
- Older network technologies like cable and DSL are asymmetrical. Meaning the upload speed is always a fraction of the download speed.
- A Gigabit is 1,000 megabits.
- Our 1 Gig symmetrical fiber service is 7x faster than the average cable connection and 66x faster than the average DSL connection!
- Fiber Broadband is a high-speed, always-on, low-latency, internet connection.
- Fiber transfers data using light, instead of electrical signals. Fiber connections are not degraded during peak usage times or bad weather.
- Web pages and videos will load almost instantly with no buffering.
Cable / DSL Speeds: Download 100 Mbps / Upload 10 Mbps
Fiber Speeds: Download 1000 Mbps / Upload 1000 Mbps
- This allows you to backup to the cloud, share files, work from home, game, and stream with no slowdowns.
All for one inclusive price!
The right package depends on how you use the internet. Here’s how we help customers decide:
-
250 Mbps = stream 4K movies on 8+ devices at once, video call, game online with no lag, and work from home smoothly.
-
500 Mbps = stream multiple 4K videos, game online, run smart home devices, and handle multiple work-from-home users.
-
1 Gbps = ultimate experience for tech-heavy homes, large file transfers, multiple simultaneous streams, etc.
With Velocity you can change your plan at any time!
Simple, none!
Other providers charge for installation, equipment lease, and data overage. At Velocity, we don’t think that’s a fair deal. The price you see is the price you pay, tax included!
Free installation and WiFi router included. No contracts, no data caps, no extra charges.
You don’t have to! Our service is likely compatible with your own network equipment.
We find 95% of customer devices are connected over WiFi. We provide the latest and greatest WiFi 7 router at no additional cost to our customers. You’re getting awesome fiber internet, we don’t want your WiFi to slow you down! Our included WiFi router allows multiple compatible devices to connect at speeds over 1 Gig.
Installation takes about 2 hours. We recognize customers have busy schedules. We are able to complete installation in two parts, so you only need to be home for a short period of time.
We’re also available in the evening and on weekends!
To get you connected to our fiber network, a technician will install a fiber cable from the street to your home. This usually connects near your other utilities, like the electric meter, are.
Once the fiber is installed to your home, the technician will discuss with you to determine the best way to get the fiber into your home. Then, they will get your WiFi setup and help you connect your devices.
